Fabulous deconstruction, Melody! You are so wise to not agree with every single thing Dale Carnegie has to say about everything. It reminds me of something I heard from Hal Elrod and Jon Berghoff today, in which they mentioned that although we may become fascinated by an expert or thought leader in a particular field, that does not mean we need to emulate each part of her or his life. We can follow Dale Carnegie and never “beat” people in arguments or conversations (my favorite piece of wisdom from the book about not always having to be right), but that does not mean we have to follow him when we are looking to go on vacation and choose to manipulate our spouse using our child! This is my favorite book by the way so it was awesome to see it under a new microscope!
